My Bookchoice
I choose the book of Paul McCrtney because he is a person that I am very interested with. He is a very interesting person and his career is very impressive. I have a good feeling about this book and I thinck it will be very cool.
What does the setting contribute to the work?
The setting in the time were rock and roll was starting and very big changes where being made gives a perfect place for 4 young musicians to became the greatest rock band of all time. Also a international figure was being needed so he could be an example to follow by many people, andthe was what the Beatles were to many people.
Who is the narrator? How do you know?
The narrator is Peter Ames Carlin. I know it because he is in many parts giving his personal opinion and sharing what the Beatles meant to him and the people around him. We can infer he is a great fan of the Beatles and that he likes them very much.
Who are the principle characters? Describe them.
The principle characters in the book are Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Ringo Starr, and George Harrison. Paul is modest and often quiet or shy. John is direct, straightforward, and usually completely honest. Ringo is gentle, sensitive, and with a deep understanding of people. George is natural, reasonable, tolerant and wailing to listen to many points of view.
What conflicts occur?
- Their manager Brian Epstein died, and without him the Beatles found it hard to work together.
- From 1967 to 1969, each of the four Beatles began working on their own private projects, and this led to conflicts of interests.
- John Lennon dies.
- George Harrison dies.
How does the narrator's point of view affect the work?
The narrator's pint of view is as a lifelong fan, because as he says in the book he has been a Beatles fan since he is just a kid. The way this affect the book is that most of the book is written in a very positive way and hiding a little bad things that happened and emphasizing the good things, also all book we talk about Paul and the Beatles as heroes because of how much the narrator likes them.
How does the title relates to the book?
The title Paul McCrtney relates to the book in the way that all the book is about Paul McCrtney and all what has happened during his life. The book also talks about the Beatles, and more people that was and has been around Paul all his life. The title fits perfectly the book, first of all because it goes straight forward to what the book is about, second because this title gives the freedom to the book of talking only about one person in specific and all around that person.
Book review
There are many books about Paul McCrtney and the Beatles, but in my opinion this is the best because it is written in a very interesting way that keeps you interested in the story the whole time. There are moments in the book that the dialogue really speaks to you and makes you feel the emotion of the moment. In this book we can also get to know the Beatles in a more intimate way than we usually do, like for example when the rumor about Paul McCrtney being dead in a car accident and being replaced with a double to avoid many fans from suiciding, wich as they say it's a hilarious rumor. Also in the book is mentioned the rumor of why in the abbey road cover Paul appears without shoes, many say it is because he was "dead", to that Paul says "it was a hot day and I was wearing sandals, I just walked without shoes, what is the big deal about it?". During the whole book we get a more fresh and new way of knowing the Beatles, wich in my opinion for fans, it is a terrific opportunity! I recommend this book to anyone who admires the Beatles, Classic rock, music, biographies, or Paul McCrtney. This book is directed to a more mature audience do adolescents es and adults, it has many complicated words that the young ones won't understand. Overall I thinck this is a great book for fans and not fans, and among all other Beatles books this is the one written in the best way.
